******************************************************
Information for Registered GlazeChem Version 1.2 Users
******************************************************
3/5/2001

Hi, welcome back to GlazeChem!

This file covers a few points of information for users of GlazeChem 1.2:
  * Installation
  * Registration and upgrade fee
  * How to load your old data files
  * How to learn about the new features

============
Installation
============
As is mentioned in the Setup program, you should not attempt to install
GlazeChem 2.1 into the same directory as your earlier version of the
program, nor should you install the new data files into the same directory
as your old data files.

Other than that, GlazeChem 2.1 can be installed on the same computer as
GlazeChem 1.2 without any trouble. You may want to keep the old version on your
system while you try out the new version. However, the data files from
version 1.2 and 2.1 are not 100% compatible - see below.

============================
Registration and upgrade fee
============================
The upgrade fee to version 2.1 for registered version 1.2 users is $10.00 US.
(If you registered for version 1.0 or 1.1, that counts too.) You'll need to
fill out the registration form (in Register.txt or in the Help file) and send
it in along with your check. We'll confirm your earlier GlazeChem registration
and send your new registration code back to you.

=======================================================
How to load GlazeChem 1.2 data files into GlazeChem 2.1
=======================================================
GlazeChem 1.2 data files (glazes, materials, substitution, elements, and
even preferences) CAN be read by GlazeChem 2.1. GlazeChem 2.1 files
CANNOT be read by GlazeChem 1.2 without minor modifications; if you need
to do this, see below.

To use your old GlazeChem data files in GlazeChem 2.1:
  1. Copy your old data files either to your new GlazeChem 2.1 data directory
     (renaming as necessary to avoid filename conflicts), or to some other new
     directory. Keep the old files as backups.
  2. Inside GlazeChem 2.1, either add the files to the database tree and open
     from there, or open them directly with commands in the File menu.
  3. If you want to use your old Preferences file, copy your GlazeChem 1.2
     PREFS.DAT to your GlazeChem 2.1 program directory (by default,
     "C:\Program Files\GlazeChem\GlazeChem 2.1"). You may need to
     rename or overwrite a preferences file that is already there.

If you have difficulty getting your Preferences file to work, use Notepad, Wordpad,
or another editor to edit the file Glazechem.ini in your Windows directory. Set
the PrefFileName entry to the pathname of your preferences file.

If for some reason you need to read a GlazeChem 2.1 data file with GlazeChem 1.2,
you need to change the Version field at the top of the file. Open the data file
with an editor and change the version to 1. The file can then be opened with
GlazeChem 1.2, although, any information new to version 2 files will be lost
when the file is read into GlazeChem 1.2.
